Would you come as our guest to the final worship service in Johnston Hall at 10.30am Sunday July 27th 2014? This will mark the conclusion of 75 years of service in and from Johnston Hall and will be an occasion for thanksgiving and celebration.
We would like to have you with us and trust you can be a part of worship on this day as we conclude one stage of our journey and prepare to face the next.
The stage to be concluded is the life and witness of our church through Johnston Hall. The future we prepare to face is not clear but serving the community with excellence, generosity and compassion will remain central. Next year, December 2015, will mark 100 years of the Presbyterian Church in the St Heliers Bay area.
Creating the new facility that will replace Johnston Hall is essential under the new earthquake regulations but also necessary for our continued effectiveness to welcome the community.
We realise we are just one of many parishes saying goodbye to places of worship.
It is our intention to honour the past with the faith and focus that our forebears brought to building Johnston Hall. During the week following the service demolishing commences. In several months we will be opening the new facility.
Today there is excitement about the future and a strong sense of the leading of Jesus Christ calling us to keep on “Reaching Out and Welcoming In”. We have raised funds towards the completion of this project but with a mortgage which we are keen to reduce. This service of thanksgiving and farewell is an invitation and opportunity for all to bring a gift of thanksgiving – large or small. (Donations can be tax deductable. Be sure to include your name)
Worship will conclude just prior to 12 noon when lunch will be served. The meal will be informal and generous, with a programme of entertainment, and recollection.
We are looking forward to welcoming you.
My kind regards
Rev Pauline Stewart Alan Jamieson
Minister Church Council Chair

“Our life is defined by what we give of ourselves; whom we serve and how we serve; not by what we possess or how many people come through our doors.
Jesus, the One we serve, is the centre of love and humility and whatever we give can only be seen in terms of His gift to us of his life and his light.”
