Cellist, Sarah Spence holds a Bachelor of Music Honours from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she studied with Danish Cellist, Kim Bak Dinitzen – Solo Cellist of the Royal Danish Orchestra. As part of this degree, she also studied Pedagogy with Katie Wearing for two years and Baroque Cello with Susan Shepherd. Sarah completed her German Masters in Chamber Music at the Robert Schumann Musik Hochschule in Duesseldorf under the tutelage of German Cellist, Gregor Horsch – Solo Cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Whilst in Duesseldorf, she also received lessons from the Solo Cellist of the Berlin Philharmoniker, the Duisdburger Philharmoniker, members of the Mannheimer Striech Quartett and Thomas Leander.

Sarah has always taken a particular interest in contemporary music. In Germany, she spent a semester studying with world renowned Contemporary Music Ensemble, Musik Fabrik and performed with them at the Acht Bruecker Fest in Cologne. Sarah also worked closely with German Composer, Michael Denhoff and performed in his premiere of Schwarzes Ballet in collaboration with a contemporary dance group as well as various other projects in and around Nord Rhein Westfalen. As cellist with the Eris Ensemble, Sarah premiered and recorded Charlie Usher’s ‘Black Tent on the Plains’ and also recorded Scottish Composer, Gemma McGregor’s CD, ‘From Nothing’. 

Future projects include a concerto with the Wairua Sinfonietta, in which she is also principal cello, and a concert series with the Villani Piano Quartet.!
