OSCAR Before & After School Care
On arrival at after school care, afternoon tea is provided which includes a range of nourishing cooked food, healthy sandwiches, crackers, cut fruit and vegetables. A sweet biscuit or frozen yoghurt treat is available afterwards. On Fridays, ice cream is available!!
Our before school care programme provides a healthy breakfast of cereal, toast and milo!
Our staff are caring, motivated individuals who strive to provide a fun and stimulating environment. All supervisors and key staff are first aid qualified. All our staff are police-vetted and trained. Staff are provided at a ratio of 1:10.
At St Heliers Oscar and Churchill Park Oscar we have a high standard of safety, striving to exceed the safety standards, child protection and behaviour guidance required by OSCAR and the Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children. We are OSCAR Accredited and we provide WINZ subsidies for those families that qualify.
Terms, Conditions and Policies
When enrolling your child, you will be required to click on “Agree” to our terms and conditions. This confirms to us that you have read and understood the following:
- All cancellations are to be requested in writing 2 weeks in advance to oscar@sthelierscentre.org.nz. If the request is made within the 2 week period the days requested are liable for payment.
- Please note that no refunds are made for non attendance, including sickness.
- Should you wish to alter the days of your child’s attendance please request this in writing 2 weeks in advance.
- A charge of $1 per minute will be charged if children are not picked up by 6pm.
Bookings to be made in advance– no last minute surprises please
Please do not send your child to our OSCAR programme if no booking has been made on our online booking system Enrolmy. Failure to book will cause potential health and safety issues around staff to student ratio, putting unnecessary strain on our team.
Attendance/Absence
If your child is enrolled for a particular day on the OSCAR programme, we expect them to attend, and a fee will be charged accordingly. If your child is absent on a particular day, please contact us prior to 10am on the day either by email: oscar@sthelierscentre.org.nz or phone ph 575 8442. For late absences on the day, contact:

Payment
In the second week of term, a deposit will be required for the first anticipated five weeks of term. This is to be paid within 7 days. After the first five weeks of term, any extra payments due for any extra sessions attended will be invoiced and will be payable within 7 days. This process will repeat for the second half of term (but may be for a four, five or six week period depending on the length of the term).

Unpaid accounts may result in termination from the programme.

Health and Safety
We refer to the St Heliers Centre Health and Safety Policy. A copy of the policy is displayed at each site.
Authorised Pick ups
On the Enrolmy enrolment form under each child, there is an Authorised Pick Ups section for you to add details of people you consent to pick up you children. Under Your Child At Home section you can add details of anyone not authorised to pick up your child. Please let us know if there are any safety or child custody issues which may affect your child’s security and wellbeing.
Medical Conditions, Allergies, Special Dietary Needs
Please advise us of any of the above on the Enrolmy online enrolment form. Medicine will not be administered to a child unless the parent has signed a Medical Consent form for staff to do so. This also applies in the event of an accident.
Accidents
In the event of an accident, supervisors may arrange any necessary urgent medical treatment at the parent’s cost.
Sun Safe
Our Sun Safe policy requires you to provide your child with his/her own named hat and sunscreen.
Ministry for Children Guidelines
This is followed should any allegation or suspicion of child abuse occur.
Relationships and Behaviour Guidance Policy
All children will be supported and respected while attending the Oscar programme. Behaviour management is carried out in a positive and firm manner. Staff receive training in our behaviour management policy procedures.
Social Media
For both Oscar Churchill Park and Glendowie Angels/Upgraders a small area will be set up for those who will be using devices, however this area will be closely monitored by staff.
Parents are responsible for making their child aware of the dangers of threatening material on the internet. If they are exposed to this, they are to go to a staff member straight away. Staff are vigilant when monitoring children, to ensure that they are not being exposed to and/or exposing this material to others. No social media including youtube is to be used on the device or photos/videos taken of others without their consent. If children are abusing these rules or are too young to use a device according to school rules, St Heliers Church & Community Centre have the right to confiscate the device. This will be done on a case by case basis.

Photo & Video Permission
If you consent to your child appearing on photos or videos while at St Heliers Oscar @ Glendowie Centre & Churchill Park Oscar programmes, please tick yes for consent or no. This is found under the child’s details on our online enrolment form on Enrolmy. The images will be used as promotional material.
Disclaimer
By enrolling your child you agree to the Policy, Terms and Conditions of St Heliers Church and Community Centre’s out of school programmes. Any changes to these will be notified to you.
You agree that while the Out-of-School Care employees will take care to provide proper supervision of children at all times, neither the St Heliers Presbyterian Church, Community Centre, nor the employed and volunteer staff shall have any personal liability in respect to any act of omission arising from any session or activity of the service.
You agree to accept responsibility for any expenses arising from an emergency situation where treatment is needed for your child.
Privacy Act
Information held on enrolment is used for the purposes of establishing and maintaining accurate records held by St Heliers Centre. This information is stored on our online booking system Enrolmy. Parents are welcome to update their details by logging into their account.
This information will not be passed to any other body, and will be accessed only by staff operating the Oscar programme. Information will be made available to Oranga Tamariki for the purpose of approving the programmes.
